The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one (1) part-time Fire Inspector vacancy. The Fire Inspector is responsible for performing fire prevention inspection activities and enforcing applicable codes. The Fire Inspector is a part-time standalone classification. The Fire Inspector is distinguished from other classifications by its responsibility for inspecting, enforcing, and correcting fire hazards. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general direction from the Fire Chief or designee.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Inspects businesses, residences, special occupancy sites, and/or other applicable buildings or sites for compliance with applicable fire codes; notifies appropriate individuals/owners of code violations; issues corrective orders; enforces and follows-up on code violations to ensure acceptable levels of compliance. Maintains a variety of records and reports related to fire prevention activities. Serves as a liaison with other internal departments, the community, external customers, and/or other interested parties regarding fire prevention activities. Facilitates public education programs within the community; creates public service announcements; develops a variety of programs related to fire safety. Coordinates and performs weed abatement activities on vacant lots. Reviews plans for new and existing construction to ensure proper fire code requirements are applied. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training, and work experience to be followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City’s Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
