CITY OF HALLANDALE BEACH is Hiring an Assistant Director of Public Works- Internal Operations Near Hallandale, FL

WORK OBJECTIVE

Under the general directions of the Public Works Director, plans, directs, manages and oversees functions, programs, and personnel associated with Public Works Internal Operations to include the budget preparation and fiscal management of various divisions in the department (e.g. Cemetery, Facilities Maintenance, Administrative Staff, Procurement and Contracts Administration). Performs administrative and supervisory work in directing the overall internal operations of the assigned work area(s) in the Public Works Department. Supervises employees and develops work schedules for day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency and productivity. Performs duties with considerable independence and latitude in supervising and in being responsible for technical and administrative functions. Provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the department Director, Assistant City Manager and City Manager. Position requires an advanced understanding and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in assigned function or operation. Supervises subordinates through oral and written reports based upon personal observation.

The work entails managing, coaching, and developing employees. Position requires extensive expertise and knowledge in specialized functions or business areas that can be used to develop policies and procedures as well as determining efficient and innovative ways to accomplish the organization’s business strategies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration, economic, or related field supplemented by five (5) years of governmental budgeting and/or accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in Public Works management or supervision. Two (2) years of auditing, construction accounting, cost accounting, governmental budgeting and/or financial analysis experience. Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements. 

Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to perform this job successfully.
