City of Grove City is Hiring a Service Laborer - Part-time or Seasonal Near Grove, OH

Available positions:
Part-time - maximum of 28 hours per week
Seasonal - 40 hours per week for 5 months
Must be 16 years of age
Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Service Laborer, under the immediate supervision of a Department Manager or Supervisor is responsible for performing general manual labor and maintenance work.
 
The successful candidate, under direction of a crew supervisor, will work to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks using hand tools and various types of motorized equipment, will work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and meets the requirements outlined below.
 
Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); must be 16 years of age; must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
 
The Service Laborer shall have the following duties under his/her direct supervisor:
 
Supports the service department by successfully executing daily job assignments.
 
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks to assist with the efficient delivery of City services (e.g., litter cleanup, mowing, painting, patching roadways, assists with erecting street signs, leaf collection, snow removal, etc.); assists with maintenance and operation of City-owned equipment and vehicles; inspects equipment and tools prior to operation to ensure safety; maintains City tools and equipment as required; assists with rough and finished carpentry work; trimming and/or cutting trees and brush, cleans streets, curbs, and catch basins; assists with some minor electrical work as assigned; cleans City facilities.
Town Center area maintenance (e.g., litter cleanup, table, bench and umbrella repair, event preparation).
 
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
 
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned.The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants, unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., belts, reels, blades, pulleys, etc.); exposed to possible injury from explosions and/or falling from high places; has exposure to fire; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to shaking objects or surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lbs. or less. Employee may be subject to irregular work hours and must be available 24/7 unless alternate arrangements have been approved by Supervisor, and exposed to vehicular traffic when working in the public right-of-way.
 
 Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium to heavy work.
 
The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Backhoe, loader, street sweeper, skid steer, snowplow, tractors, mowers, and other related equipment; saws, jackhammer, crack sealer, roller, chipper, light and heavy duty motorized trucks, hand and power tools (e.g., chainsaw, air wrench, etc.); mobile phone, personal computer, computer software, printer, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard business office equipment.Knowledge of *City/department goals and objectives; *City/department policies and procedures; safety practices and procedures; first aid practices; road construction, maintenance and repair; custodial methods and techniques; building construction, maintenance and repair; general construction, maintenance and repair; mechanical maintenance; vehicle maintenance and repair; heavy and medium duty equipment maintenance and repair; proper lifting techniques; grounds maintenance and repair; local geographical area.
