City of Groton is Hiring a Purchasing Agent Near Groton, CT

The City of Groton has an opening in our Finance Department. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced fulltime Purchasing Agent to join our team. Under the supervision of the Director of Finance, as a Purchasing Agent, you will be responsible for evaluating suppliers and negotiating contracts to receive the lowest price for high-quality goods and services. The Purchasing Agent will also be responsible for the bid process and manage the City’s purchasing functions. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proven track record in purchasing. You must also possess the ability to effectively and diplomatically present information to top management, public agencies and commissions, the public and municipal vendors and contractors. Must be able to write reports and business correspondence in addition to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, and other documents, such a bid specifications and insurance forms.

WORK HOURS: The core work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, a flexible schedule may be available.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business/Public Administration from an accredited college/ university or other closely related field, with a minimum of five (5) years experience in purchasing. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements. Familiarity with municipal/ purchasing operations and procedures desirable. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and knowledgeable of and able to operate all other City computer hardware applications and typical business office equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license. Bondable. Certified Public Purchasing Officer/Buyer (CPPO/CPPB) designation preferred.

Rate of pay is $36.01 and is benefit eligible including participation in medical and dental insurance, the city Retirement Program and paid time off for vacation, sick and personal time and holidays. Pre-employment physical exam including drug screen, background check, credit check and references are required.
