Our employees pride themselves on delivering quality customer experiences, nurturing relationships and curating rich print and digital collections, all in an effort to make meaningful, measurable and desirable differences in the lives of our customers and the community as a whole.Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work: The Library Social Work Coordinator position requires coordination of system-wide social work initiatives; providing guidance and support for social work-related issues throughout the system. Other responsibilities include supervision and oversight of the internship program. This position hires, assigns, trains, orients, and supervises interns including coaching on industry best practices. Creates and maintains a flexible environment for implementing new mental health/support services and trends. Develops and maintains partnerships with community agencies and vendors/contractors who provide supportive services for customers and staff. Contributes to organizational effectiveness by identifying training needs, and developing and facilitating staff training on topics such as mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation skills. This position assists customers in accessing community services, supports them with navigating social service systems and applications, understanding information from social service organizations; and assisting under-supported communities and stakeholders in finding solutions and resources to address social, behavioral, and educational needs. Additionally, this position intervenes to de-escalate specific patron incidents and assists with/model effective conflict resolution. Develops recommendations to remove barriers to library services for at-risk patrons and create helpful guides on health-related information and resources. The Library Social Work Coordinator provides guidance and assistance to patrons regarding general and specific information about the library, and its programs, and resources.The Library Social Work Coordinator must possess the ability to: Represent the city in the most positive manner with residents, employees, and the community we serve.Ability to meet and deal effectively with customers and staff.Ability to interact and communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations.Ability to cooperate as a team member with all sections performing duties essential to the achievement of efficient service delivery.Ability to provide service in a courteous, prompt, and efficient manner.Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with the general public and staff.Possess excellent human relations, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to provide information using library resources and materials, and best social work practices.Ability to read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in written and oral form and request clarification when needed.Ability to develop and use empathetic listening skills, communicate with clarity, and demonstrate behaviors that convey respect, stewardship, honesty, and integrity. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
