CITY OF GREEN BAY is Hiring a Violence Interrupter Near Jefferson, WI

JOB
The Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) is hiring part-time, limited term Violence Interrupters. Interrupters leverage their individual reputation and street credibility to disrupt the cycle of violence and reduce shootings and homicides in the City of Green Bay. Interrupters intervene in individual, group, and gang-related conflicts before they intensify, work to prevent retaliatory shootings, and utilize problem-solving skills to address safety risks and end conflict.These are limited term positions with funding anticipated to last until December 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension. Rate of pay: $25.00 per hourWork Schedule: 15-30 hours per week with a varied scheduled based on the needs of the position. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Meets frequently with high-risk individuals and groups to discuss issues. Gets to know the highest risk individuals and people who know them. Works to intervene in circumstances in which violence is likely, including possible retaliation. Documents all contacts with high-risk individuals. Conducts outreach to the community and develops relationships with individuals, residents, businesses, community leaders, and community groups.Gains information regarding potential conflicts and hotspots in the community. Identifies and diffuses hot spots for shootings and violence. Engages restorative practices in the de-escalation and resolution of conflict. Formulates action plans to help resolve conflicts. Documents resolved conflicts.Researches causes of shootings and killings to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups (working with the community, outreach programs and law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional killings) and provides documentation.Works closely and collaboratively with street outreach and neighborhood responses teams.Works to prevent acts of violence and retaliatory shootings.Refers potential clients/participants to outreach workers or case managers.Attends outreach worker/violence interrupter meetings.Participates in and engages participants in program activities.Attends community responses as needed.Documents consistently and accurately records contacts with clients.Under the direction of the OVP Director, represents the OVP to the media, public officials, communities leaders, etc. about the strategies to prevent gun violence and improved prevention services for youth.Participates in violence prevention efforts with other providers as assigned.Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of urban youth issues, specifically youth violence and juvenile justice.Skill in working with diverse populations. Skill and ability to communicate effectively, connect with, and motivate youth and/or young adults regarding behavior that may lead to violence. Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution.Ability to stay calm in response to emergencies. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to perform the following activities: Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.Frequent standing and sitting.Ability to focus for long periods of time on projects.Ability to stoop, reach and lift.
