City of Greeley is Hiring a Parks Maintenance Technician II Near Greeley, CO

Salary Range: $23.70 - $30.82 hourly

Job Summary:

Performs general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities; performs landscape maintenance including mowing, watering, pruning, week control and facility/equipment repairs; operates a variety of motorized equipment; operates a variety of hand and power tools. May oversee parks related projects such as the installation playground equipment, irrigation systems, or reconstruction of a park. May also supervise some full-time and/or seasonal employees.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Specialized training beyond high school.
  • Two (2) years' grounds maintenance experience.
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.

Preferred

  • English/Spanish bilingual skills.
  • Supervisory experience helpful.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of operating hand and power tools, light trucks, tractors, used in the field of park/athletic field maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience in the upkeep and maintenance of parks including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.
  • Basic math skills are necessary to lay out soccer/football fields and base placement for baseball/softball at athletic facilities.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization, and have the decision-making ability to achieve the required job results while adhering to specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.
  • Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains various types of playground equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains other park related equipment including lighting, security cameras, etc.
  • Sets up and tears down event specific equipment and facilities.
  • Works various weekends and holidays.
  • Performs maintenance and safety inspections of parks facilities.
  • Operates and performs minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Supervises hourly and/or seasonal employees.
  • Safely applies pesticides, weed killer, and other chemical agents; use PPE and follow Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for ball fields and surrounding facilities.
  • Follows instructions both verbally and written.
  • Works independently as well as with others.
  • Follows established safety policies and practices.
  • Comes to work regularly in compliance with prescribed schedule.
    • Examples of work include:
      • Pulling trash bags (50 lbs.) out of canisters that can be up to 4 ½ ft tall.
      • Changing parking blocks (80 pounds, 6 ft long).
      • Sledgehammer in stakes.
      • Lay sod (50 lbs.); repairing / installing irrigation lines requires applying strength in awkward situations (e.g., 5ft deep x 3 ft wide hole, or laying in on stomach and reaching into hole).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May also supervise some full-time and/or seasonal employees.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to various types of machinery noise - some levels are excessive.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • May have frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone; and may experience adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in any weather condition.
  • Typical hearing protection will be provided.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • May occasionally stand on concrete for long periods of time.
  • Frequent and inflexible deadlines.
  • May be asked to drive a personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Subject to driving City vehicles in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.
  • Requires ability to perform multiple tasks at one time with frequent interruptions.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends or holidays to cover events, Saturday workdays or emergencies.
  • Environment is dangerous to having considerable hazards reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury; constant exposure to blood borne and air borne pathogens and human feces; exposure to cleaning chemicals, ice melt, paint fumes, fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides; exposure to extreme temperature conditions ranging from below zero to above 100 degrees; working with power equipment, heavy equipment, sharp objects, and mowers; exposure to illegal, and criminal activity in parks, (e.g., gangs, bomb making materials, drugs, graffiti, vandalism, and contaminated furniture).

Physical Requirements: 

  • Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment and grounds and to operate vehicles and equipment.
  • Manual dexterity enough to operate hand tools, mowers, edgers, blowers, tractors, trenchers, front-end loaders, skid steers and other related equipment and vehicles.
  • Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach as to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools.
  • Ability to move over rough, uneven, and rocky surfaces in performance of grounds maintenance.
  • Stamina and strength enough to lift and or move up to 60 lbs. for long distances over a variety of surfaces.
  • Ability to climb steps and ladders and work at various heights and in confined spaces.
  • Perform strenuous labor in all types of weather.
