City of Golden Valley (MN) is Hiring an Investigator/Detective - Non-Sworn Near Minneapolis, MN

JOB
Non-Sworn Investigators support the police department with effective and efficient criminal investigations. Civilian investigators will take crime reports, support the collection and preservation of evidence, conduct interviews, and file reports to bring swift conclusions to all manner of investigations. The individuals in this role will also support the administrative functions within the department including gathering data and responding to data practices requests, conducting criminal history background checks, and other projects as assigned.Expected Hours of WorkThe City Police department operates 24/7 year-round. Investigators will work primarily Monday-Friday, 8-4:30 pm but may be asked to respond to calls after hours.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions: Investigate reported crimes: Prepare, obtain, and support the sworn officers with search and seize warrants.Identify, locate, and question witnesses and suspects.Obtain victim, witness and suspect statements.Maintain complete and concise written investigative reports.Present cases to City/County Attorney’s office, sign criminal complaints in front of the Judge, and testify in court.Consult on additional investigations or provide guidance to Attorney’s office as needed.Assist Patrol by following up on calls referred to investigations.Collaborate with other city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and attend monthly local investigator meetings, and other law enforcement agency meetings as requested.Develop expertise in specialty equipment, digital photography, surveillance equipment, and computers, and Work with Sworn staff to set up/conduct surveillance and gather intelligence on (suspected) criminal activity with Golden Valley as needed.Work with sworn staff to set up/conduct surveillance and gather intelligence on suspected criminal activity as needed.Conduct criminal history background checks, credit checks, assist with finger prints, and other associate pre-employment investigations duties as needed.Support the Police department with the compilation and response to data requests, serving as a data designee for the department.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Work Environment & Physical DemandsWork environment can vary greatly depending on circumstances. Work is conducted primarily indoors but may involve occasional outdoor work, and employees are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to distracting noises, including radio, and citizen activity. Responsibilities involve supervision of police activities in criminal investigations. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others in person, over the telephone, and through radio. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, and telephone, as well as equipment/tools consistently found in law enforcement, including radar, and radios. Staff will frequently read and interpret documents. Staff will frequently traverse around the city, both on foot and in a motor vehicle.
