Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Foreman, carries out maintenance of the trails, park grounds, and park facilities.

Performs general maintenance and janitorial duties including mowing and weed-eating grass, cleaning restrooms and toilets, trash pick-up, general landscaping, and assisting with special events.

This is a temporary position (May - September) with the possibility of remaining on call for peak times during the year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Mows and trims grass and assists with landscape maintenance.
• Assists with routine repairs on equipment and facilities.
• Performs trail maintenance.
• Cleans Park restrooms.
• Litter control and trash collection.
• Promptly reports all accidents, injuries, theft, loss, and broken / damaged equipment / property to their immediate supervisor.
• Reports or corrects all unsafe practices or conditions they observe to their immediate supervisor.
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned to assist with special events, etc.
• Serves in an extension of current duties as required for emergency management, particularly in the areas of shelter, debris removal, and recovery.
• Actively participates in monthly safety meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire. Regular punctual attendance is required.

Knowledge of :

Knowledge of light machinery operation and safety procedures.

Any knowledge of mowers, trimmers, hand tools, equipment safety, chemical safety, playground safety, or any outdoor maintenance is preferred.

Knowledge of CPR.

Skill in :

Ability to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships,

Reads and comprehends warning labels and road signs.

Ability to read and comprehend checklists and complete reports.

Measures and mixes cleaning agents.

Follows instructions on the use of chemicals, and park safety procedures (playground & equipment).

Ability to work safely with chemicals, equipment, and tools.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas Driver’s license

CPR and First Aid preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, and use of foot controls.

Exposure to weather, vibrations, noise from equipment, and hazardous chemicals. Lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs. such as trash, tables, equipment, etc.

EMPLOYMENT TESTING :

Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation, and driving record check, if applicable.

Work Schedule :

Evening and weekend shifts are required.
