JOB DESCRIPTION:

The General Accountant reviews bank statements and prepares reconciliations and monthly adjustments. Review accounts payable claims for compliance and accuracy. Confirms wire transfers and evaluates banking services. Completes bi-weekly PERF/INPRS online reports and payments. Provide adjustments and updates of PERF/INPRS. Reconciles PERF/INPRS discrepancies, in conjunction with Human Resources. The timely monthly reconciliation of City general ledgers to City bank accounts. Analyzing and recording adjustments that result from the reconciliation process. The recording and confirmation of wire transfers. The advisement to appropriate personnel regarding un-posted items was discovered during the reconciliation process. Subsequently following up with personnel ensures items are posted correctly. Assist Deputy Controller in identifying and resolving issues identified in the monthly closing process. The review of invoices, claims, and accounts payable vouchers for accuracy and reconciliation, prior to their submission to the Board of Works. Reporting any discrepancies to the Deputy Controller for correction. Work to resolve employee and local /state INPRS issues in collaboration with Human Resources and Payroll departments. Participate in the implementation of new/updated programs and software. Investigate audit findings related to bank reconciliations, INPRS, and claims. Perform other duties assigned by Controller or Deputy Controller

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to analyze bank statements.
• 3 years of Bank reconciliation experience and strong math skills.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the general public.
• Strong PC skills using spreadsheets, word processing, and accounting software.
• The ability to plan, prepare, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
• Proven analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• At a minimum, an Associate’s Degree is required in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• 2 years of general accounting experience.
• 2 -5 years’ experience reconciling bank statements.
• 5 years’ experience in analyzing and recording governmental transactions.
• 2 years’ experience engaged in accounts payable transactions.
