The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Part-Time Airport Security Technician I with the Garden City Regional Airport. This position performs functions such as monitoring and managing aspects of airport security. The position works independently and uses considerable independent judgement in dealing with difficult situations.

Examples of Duties

• Interacts with the public and tenants on a regular basis, and places high value on public perception of the city employee work force, due to the highly visible nature of the job.

• Performs inspections and monitors the Restricted Access (RA) area.
• Performs daily and nightly safety and security inspections and documents discrepancies.
• Conducts security patrols, issues security challenges and conducts security inspections.
• Enforces Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and standard operating procedures related to airport security and safety.
• Completes written and electronic documentation, including inspections, access control, and reports.
• Communicates with employees, tenants, operators, contractors, and public regarding routine security matters, rules, and regulations.
• Assist with the completion of all documentation related to the Restricted Access (RA) area.
• Read, understand, and apply complex policies, rules and regulations pertaining to airport safety and security.
• Routinely meets with supervisor to review work assignments.
• Always follows Federal and State safety rules and procedures.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all City, contracted employees, and tenants.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of methods and procedures used for safety and security. Knowledge of safety and security practices and equipment. Skill in the operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Ability to perform physical work activities. Ability to communicate with City employees, tenants, vendors, contacts, and the public.

Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Ability to pass a rigorous background check. Valid Kansas Driver's License required.

Supplemental Information

Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather. Majority of work is performed indoors; however outdoors work is subject to moderate to extreme cold and heat, snow, rain, hail, sleet, high and gusting winds, dust, and dry conditions. Indoor work is performed in a controlled environment.

Physical Characteristics: Includes, but not limited to, repetitive motions, bend, kneel, push, pull, reach, hold, stand, walk, jump, sit, drive, and ability to lift to 26-50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.

Additional Note: Shifts are early morning and afternoon.
