Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, plans and implements adult and youth programs; oversees other recreation programs and facilities.

License And CertificationPossession of a valid Texas Driver’s license.

Physical Demands And Working EnvironmentWork is performed primarily in an indoor work environment with some exposure to an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be required to climb ladders.

- Performs program coordination; assists and implements adult and youth activities.
- Register new members; prints membership cards; makes facility reservations; answers phone calls regarding recreation programs and services.
- Performs customer service; answers questions; conducts facility tours; provides assistance regarding the use of facility equipment; responds to complaints from participants.
- Provides work direction and training to seasonal and part-time staff.
- Performs marketing; creates flyers to promote programs and services; advises the public regarding program/service changes or closures.
- Performs general office duties, including filing, copying and reports preparation.
- Assists with overseeing functions of the pocket park; ensures transactions are conducted in accordance with established policies.
- Conducts general cleaning of the facility.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
- City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
- Principles and practices of recreational programing and promotion.
- Fitness equipment use.
- City codes and ordinances.
- Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
- Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
- Providing efficient customer service.
- Understanding and applying City policies and procedures.
- Explaining City policies and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
