Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Protects life and property by performing firefighting, emergency medical care, hazardous materials and fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities. Abides by City Rules and Regulations, City Safety Manual and Department Operations Manual and other recognized Industry Standards.

Additional Information

STARTING HOURLY PAY: $15.01 p/h

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license that meets the City of Gallup insurability requirements; (Must be able to obtain and maintain NM Operator’s license Class E)
  • Must be able to pass background check

Other Conditions:Applicant must be able to pass written exam, physical agility test and oral interview. Achieve on first attempt; EMT Basic and IFSAC Firefighter I, and IFSAC Firefighter II. Successfully complete one-year probationary period. Employee will be entered into a Career Development Plan. In addition will be required to respond to call-back for emergency staffing and/or operational needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience with an active paid municipal or volunteer fire department.
  • Emergency Medical Technician Basic and/or IFSAC Firefighter I or Firefighter II.
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
  • Associates Degree in Fire Science or related field.
