Summary Under senior engineering supervision, manage design and construction of infrastructure projects including, but not limited to: roads, bridges, irrigation systems, stormwater ponds, pipes and structures, wastewater reclamation and water treatment structures and facilities, and water distribution and sanitary sewer conveyance systems. Performs technical research to develop solutions to engineering problems.
Job Duties Review design plans of assigned projects and confer with engineering, land surveying, and architectural firms to advise and explain design plan corrections required by the City of Gainesville to meet City needs and standards, as well as state or county laws or ordinances.
Conduct inspections of City projects to ensure all construction materials, procedures, and final products meet or exceed required minimum specifications.
Conduct inspections of City projects to ensure compliance with the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control codes and ordinances.
Provide technical information to contractors and developers relating to building or maintaining roads, bridges, irrigation systems, stormwater ponds, pipes and structures, wastewater reclamation and water treatment structures and facilities, and water distribution and sanitary sewer conveyance systems and other City projects.
Assist City engineers with conducting field surveys, hydrology studies and/or other engineering studies and designing City infrastructure projects.
Maintain good communication and relationships with engineers, developers, contractors, Federal State and Local officials, government employees and the public.
Review and prepare project specifications and drawings for City projects.
Process payment and change order requests for construction and other City projects.
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, preferred.
Minimum 10 years' experience in engineering and/or construction management, preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education and technical experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above, may be considered.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, developers, contractors, Federal, State and Local officials, government employees and the public.
Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of construction and project management as applied to major infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of principles and practices used in inspection and testing of materials for the construction of roads, bridges, irrigation systems, stormwater ponds, pipes and structures, wastewater reclamation and water treatment structures and facilities, and water distribution and sanitary sewer conveyance systems.
Skill using surveying equipment, including a Topcon GPS unit.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, Word, Excel and other software, preferred.
