City of Fullerton is Hiring a Senior Permit Technician Near Fullerton, CA

We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments. Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities. We are a mid-sized organization providing a wide variety of services with a workforce dedicated to the future of Fullerton.
Position:
The City of Fullerton seeks a knowledgeable and customer service-oriented individual to fill the position of Senior Permit Technician in our Community and Economic Development Department.
Under general supervision performs complex and responsible technical, clerical, and public contact work in the acceptance, processing, and review of a wide variety of building-related permits and plans; monitors and directs the work of staff performing permit/plan acceptance, processing, and review and performs related work as required.
Future general salary increases include:
4% Increase effective July 2024
4% Increase effective July 2025
3% Increase effective July 2026
Education & Experience
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the necessary qualifications is as follows:
Graduation from high school supplemented by some completed class work from an accredited college or university in planning, building construction, engineering, or a related field.
AND
Three years of experience as a Permit Technician with the City of Fullerton or equivalent position. Some lead experience is helpful but not required.
Special Requirements:
  • Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.
  • Permit Technician Certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) is required within 12 months of employment.

Assessment Process:
Applicants must be specific and complete in describing their qualifications for the position. BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, those applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications may be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview, and/or other assessment instruments.
The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before a related examination step.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Senior Permit Technician will be placed on an eligible list for this classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
Appointment:
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees who are appointed to safety-sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
An appointee will serve a 12-month probationary period.
