City of Fresno is Hiring a Light Equipment Operator Near Fresno, CA

Under supervision, a Light Equipment Operator operates trucks, light tractors, and other light automotive equipment; and may lead one or more workers on an assigned route or project. Light Equipment Operators commonly work using light trucks and tractors, flatbed trailers, dump trailers, dump trucks, skid steers, front loaders, hydraulic spray rigs, gang mowers, saws, generators, mowers, and various hand tools in the performance of related duties.
One vacancy exists in the Anti-Slum Enforcement Team-ASET Department with the City Attorney's Office, Division of Code Enforcement. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
The Requirements
These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify.
TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have:
One year of work experience in operating light automotive and related equipment (i.e., light tractor, dump truck, skid steer, front loaders etc.).
LICENSE: POSSESSION OF A VALID CALIFORNIA CLASS A DRIVER'S LICENSE AT TIME OF APPLICATION. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and a current copy of their driving record.
APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT, AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, A CURRENT COPY (ISSUED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF APPLICATION DEADLINE) OF THEIR DRIVING RECORD FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES(DMV). Applicants lacking their DMV printout will be rejected.
Eligible certified for consideration for hire will be required to successfully pass an extensive background investigation and Department of Justice fingerprinting process before being eligible for hire.

HOW TO ATTACH COPY of YOUR DMV DRIVING RECORD to YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION:
Your DMV Driving Record must be scanned and saved to your computer (save as DMV Record).
Go to www.fresno.gov/jobs > City of Fresno Jobs > Apply On-Line> Enter Login Information> choose My Career Tools (located at the top of the page)
Choose Cover Letters and Attachments
Select Add Attachments
For Attachment Type: choose Reference Attachment, then select Add Attachment link
Select the Browse button, you will then be able to attach the saved DMV Record from your computer. Select Upload. Click Save and Return.
The City of Fresno does not reimburse for the cost of obtaining DMV Driving Record.
These positions have been designated as being safety sensitive and require all eligible offered employment to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. Federal law requires that applicants for positions involving the operation of certain transit vehicles, revenue service vehicles, the transportation of hazardous materials, or heavy equipment over 26,001 pounds requiring a commercial driver's license, must undergo pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment. This classification is also subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout entire term of employment in this class.

Selection Process
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: A job related online written examination will be administered which may test a candidate's ability to follow written instructions, vehicle safety and vehicle/equipment maintenance. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 31, 2023.
Those candidates certified to the eligible list may be required to participate in a Departmental Skills Demonstration which may include a pre-trip vehicle inspection in accordance with DMV guidelines; AND demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of a variety of light equipment as part of the department selection process.
Veteran Preference Regulations
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested. Qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score.
