The Freeport Police Department is hiring for a full-time Telecommunications Operator. Consider a career in the fast-paced world of public safety/EMS dispatch.
This position has the following responsibilities that include but not limited to receive emergency and routine information by telephone and by radio; dispatch police, fire and other emergency services by radio, by computer (via cellular data stream) and by telephone; provide limited information to members of the public who inquire about public safety services; provide support and information to police officers, firefighters and other emergency service providers in the field; operate advanced computer systems on a data-entry and data-inquiry level; monitor and operate specialized communications equipment from a centralized integrated platform; complete and maintain records and forms required of a full-service emergency call center; data entry of computer applications; and monitor audio and visual alarms.
The qualified candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent required; as well as the ability to pass a typing test, written test, and background check. Applicants must not have been convicted of any felonies or serious misdemeanors. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
The starting wage is $21.04 per hour. The City of Freeport offers an excellent benefit package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, plus an IMRF pension.
