JOB
Works under the supervision and direction of the multi equipment operator team leader assigned to maintenance of streets, alleys, and gutters. Operates various types of heavy equipment while constructing, maintaining and repairing streets, alleys, parking lots, and other city properties. Performs other duties that may be assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in solving customer problems and complaints.Operates dozer, track loader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, road grader, asphalt paving machine, six-ton roller, asphalt distributor, tractor trailer, leaf vacuum truck, dump truck, mowers with attachments, knuckle boom brush loader, and other equipment assigned to the departmentRemoves refuse, debris, and other material from streets, alleys, ditches, etc.Demolishes structures and loads debris for disposal in landfill or other areas of disposal Constructs streets, alleys, sewer lines, etc.Rolls streets, alleys, and parking lots before and after the application of double surface chip seal and or hot plant asphalt mix.Cleans storm sewer drains and inlet boxes using a high-pressure sewer truck.Assists in the repair of heavy equipment.Ensures that preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment.Represents the Street Department and the city of Florence in a friendly, tactful, and courteous manner.Reports problems to the Multi Equipment Operator Team Leader.This department may require employees to perform various other assigned duties. Shifts may vary according to the needs of city.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of Street Department rules and regulations.Knowledge of city of Florence streets.Ability to see that projects are completed in a complete, timely, orderly, and safe manner.Ability to read maps and to perform work using grade stakes.Ability to operate heavy equipment assigned to Street Department and to work close to above and underground utilities.Ability to perform final grading.Ability to handle customer problems in a firm, friendly, and tactful manner.Knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations.Knowledge of safety rules and regulations that apply to working in and around vehicles and equipment.Ability to read, write, and understand material related to position.Physical Demands: Ability to work under stressful situations.Ability to work with constant exposure to heat, cold, dampness, noise, vibration, and other disagreeable work conditions.Ability to stoop, bend, and lift on a regular basis up to 50 pounds (more on occasions).Ability to work in and around moving traffic.Ability to crawl in and out of manholes, inlets; and ditches that may have mud or other debris in them.Subject to be called out after normal working hours.Equipment Used: DozerTrack loaderBack hoe and track hoeRubber tire loaderRoad graderAsphalt paving machineSix ton rollerAsphalt distributorTractor trailerLeaf vacuum truckDump truckMowers with attachmentsKnuckle boom brush loaderFor similar job postings, applications may be used for up to ninety (90) days.The City of Florence, Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
