City of Flint is Hiring a Substance Abuse Prevention Program Associate Near Flint, MI
JOB The Substance Abuse Prevention Program Associate will assist with tracking data on citywide services, spending and public health statistics to reduce the number of substance abuse-related overdose deaths. This settlement-funded position works closely with community members and partner organizations, requiring 40 hours per week commitment, including some weekends and evenings. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Provides oversight of Opioid Settlement Funds by tracking internal spending, procuring supplies for program operation and getting approved funds to community partners.Implements and executes activities to obtain community input, organizes quantitative and qualitative data and incorporates findings into the strategic plan.Works with partners to create evaluation plans, track compliance, and use findings for quality improvement.Works with community organizations, collaboratives and other municipalities to ensure a coordinated approach in substance abuse prevention activities.Maintains the highest level of professional integrity in transparency and allocation of resources.Creates reports, communicating activities, outcomes and recommendations through writing, presentations and other means, as appropriate, to the community and other key stakeholders.Drafts resolutions for the spending of Opioid Settlement Funds for the City Council, in accordance with applicable laws and internal policies.Identifies and recommends staff training on evidence-based harm reduction and other prevention activities.Participates in professional development to stay current on local and national trends, emerging science and best practices.Identifies missing data, assesses the feasibility of obtaining information and implements plans for filling gaps, using available resources, as necessary.Identifies funding opportunities, assisting with the writing of grants, acquiring letters of support and reporting requirements.Centers racial equity, inclusion and accessibility in all substance use prevention efforts, which is reflected in goals, activities and selected outcome measures.Performs other duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES• Competent in Microsoft Office computer applications (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint).• Valid Michigan driver’s license.• The ability to perform basic statistical operations.• Proficient at public speaking.• Excellent problem-solving skills.• The ability to synthesize large amounts of information from key stakeholders with divergent goals and work iteratively to reach a consensus. • Must have the ability to apply the social, environmental and political determinants of health to substance abuse prevention in the City of Flint.
