City of Fayetteville, Arkansas is Hiring a MAINTENANCE WORKER I - URBAN FORESTRY (Temporary) Parks 2024-02549 Near Fayetteville, AR

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. 
  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team) and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Assist the Urban Forester and Forestry Services Crew Leader with duties associated with urban forest preservation, management and restoration.
  3. Responsible for assisting in the planting, trimming and removal of trees.
  4. Responsible to ensure newly installed trees survive through proper care such as watering, mulching, fertilizing etc.
  5. Prune trees using pruning shears, loppers, bow saws, pole saws and chainsaws.
  6. Connect to fire hydrants and other watering devices to fill portable water tanks. Use gasoline water pumps to deliver water to newly planted trees.
  7. Drive truck and water tank trailer as needed to conduct tree maintenance.
  8. Use blueprints or other documents to locate and inspect tree and landscape plantings.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Prefer two (2) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
  4. Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, offenses against children, and any offense that would qualify to prevent a person from obtaining an Arkansas teaching certificate (A.C.A. 6-17-410).
  5. Must be able to effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  6. Must be self-motivated and be able to work independently with little supervision and make sound judgments.
  7. Must be able to read and interpret landscape/construction plans and maps.
  8. Being knowledgeable regarding related equipment used for tree trimming, watering, inventorying and inspecting trees is preferred.
  9. Ability to learn and properly use equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, water pumps, trucks and trailer combinations is required.
  10. Exposure to and/or knowledge of GPS systems is helpful.
  11. Must be able to use basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  12. Must have basic knowledge in the use of a personal computer and other related software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  13. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear for safety reasons or to operate specific equipment.The employee regularlyis required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  14. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and risk of vibration.
