Essential Job Functions
Performs a wide range of entry-level semi-skilled duties. Such duties are related to construction, installation, maintenance and repair of city streets, water system, parks, cemetery, public grounds, as well as maintenance, repair and delivery of garbage and recycling cans.
Accountability/Supervision
Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director, Water, Streets or Parks Supervisors on a project-by project-basis.
Job Duties
Uses a variety of hand tools and light to heavy equipment.
Operates manual and power hand tools and performs general maintenance on tools and equipment.
Delivers new and extra garbage containers and picks up containers that are no longer needed
Repairs broken garbage containers and maintains inventory.
Transports and deposits various construction materials such as sand, salt, gravel, dirt, etc.; performs hot mix patching, storm drain cleaning, sidewalk and curb repair and construction, snow and ice control, general street maintenance, cold mix patching, debris collection and water system maintenance.
Performs routine and emergency repairs on equipment.
Installs and maintains street signs and prepares proper barricading for streets.
On after-hour call outs, analyzes problems and determines staffing and equipment needed.
Must work the days and hours necessary to perform responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of specifications, grades, machinery, and techniques and methods of constructing roads, drainage systems, culverts, etc. Knowledge of confined space regulations and other safety related OSHA requirements. Ability to operate light and some heavy equipment, a variety of hand tools and to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to multi-task and manage a wide variety of jobs.
Education, Experience, and Training
Requires graduation from high school or equivalent and one (1) year of related experience or equivalent education and training.
Maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License.
Within 12 months of hire, must possess and maintain a Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Must possess Grade 1 Level Water Certification and other appropriate certifications in accordance with City policy.
