The Economic Development Department Intern’s (the “Intern”) primary responsibilities will involve working under the direction of the PR and Marketing Manager or their designee, to manage the communication of initiatives, programs, and news that support the business community and economic growth within Fairfax City.Assist in the coordination, research, preparation, and writing of the monthly e-newsletter using Mailchimp and the quarterly market report.
Measure and report on the impact of the e-newsletter and quarterly market report.
Craft brand-aligned, high-quality copy for social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X) that effectively communicate the work of the FCED.
Proofread press releases and marketing materials for distribution.
Draft bios for employees, and business owners, as well as provide other written website collateral, as needed.
Assist with maintenance of the FCED website (fairfaxcityconnected.com) using WordPress.
Keep regional media lists up to date.
Attend team meetings as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by FCED staff.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have advanced writing skills and knowledge of Mailchimp, or a similar program.
Experience writing press releases, and updating websites using WordPress, or similar is preferred but not required.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to prioritize projects and stay organized, as well as a strong attention to detail.
Interns will be expected to report to work at The Economic Development Offices at 10300 Eaton Place Fairfax, VA 22030, for 10 hours per week. Specific hours will be coordinated by EDO staff. All interns will be given access to a computer and an email address (interns are not expected to check email after hours).
