City of Eustis is Hiring an Operator C / B / A Near Eustis, FL
The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy individual who, under general supervision, performs skilled work involving the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment plant facilities. This position also performs temporary entry level supervisory functions in the absence of the Lead Operator, as assigned by the Utilities Supervisor or Director. Work is performed independently and with initiative within established policies and procedures.
Examples of Machines, Tools, and Equipment Used: Chemicals such as chlorine, bleach, polymer and carbon source elements for wastewater and chlorine, bleach and fluoride for water; motors; pumps; valves; gauges; lawn mowers; various hand tools and equipment; various custodial tools; process equipment.
Supervision Received: Utility Supervisor / Lead Operator• Operates and maintains valves, gates, pumps, engines, generators and other equipment;
• Maintains cleanliness of facilities;
• Repairs mechanical and electrical equipment and machinery;
• Monitors, calculates, interprets and records gauges, meters, control panels, PLCs and SCADA;
• Extracts samples and performs tests to determine processing requirements;
• Makes necessary adjustments to chemical feed equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, other machinery and equipment;
• Oversees and trains subordinates, when required;
• Maintains records and reports;
• Prepares and submits departmental forms such as DEP, HRS, EPA and FEMA;
• Inputs data and obtains data through computer use;
• Assists the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed;
• Performs other related duties as required.
Other Job Functions:
• Performs general maintenance and labor work such as mowing, cleaning, laying pipe & concrete, painting;
• Drives and operates sludge truck;
• Performs other related duties, as required. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of water or wastewater treatment plant operation; knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in treatment and disposal; knowledge of the repair and maintenance of pumps and related equipment; knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics as they relate to treatment plant operation.
Ability to maintain accurate records; ability to work well with others; ability to inspect and repair mechanical equipment and machinery; ability to read meters and charts accurately; ability to perform shift work (nights, weekends and holidays); ability to drive a vehicle; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked.
Skill in mechanical repair.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or recognized equivalent; Class "C" (or higher) Wastewater Treatment Operator's License issued by the State of Florida; supplemented by one (1) year responsible experience in wastewater operation, preferably at the Operator C level. Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required.

Working Hours:
Generally, normal working hours for this position are from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. However, this employee will be required to work on-call on rotation during nights and weekends.
Physical Demands:
This is moderately heavy work most of the working time. Requires frequent walking; frequent standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending; lifting 50 pounds, carrying/ pushing/pulling 50 pounds; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight; hearing and speech or vocal communication (for safety); working in adverse environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.); regular driving and operation of assigned equipment.
Salary Information:
• Operator C-I $18.93 to $26.95 per hour ($39,381.09 to $56,067.89 per year)
• Operator C-II $20.50 to $30.58 per hour ($42,641.13 to $63,607.70 per year)
• Operator B $21.85 to $32.66 per hour ($45,466.95 to $67,950.89 per year)
• Operator A $23.25 to $34.83 per hour ($48,377.42 to $72,463.32 per year)
In addition to salary, employee will receive an EXCELLENT benefit package (Note: See Benefits Tab for more information). Applicants should expect a starting salary of $18.93 per hour (C-1); $20.50 per hour (C-II); $21.85 per hour (B); $23.25 per hour (A). Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Following a thorough background investigation including a criminal history and driver’s license check, the candidate will be given a conditional offer of employment. The final candidate will be required to pass a drug test and medical exam.
