Requirements

MOS Codes: B03A (Navy), MK (Coast Guard)
Education and Experience: A High School diploma, GED, or higher and two (2) years of experience in well production field operations or monitoring and adjusting automated computer controlled systems, or as a utility plant technician.
Licenses and Certificates: None.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, on an assigned shift, operate, control and monitor water supply pumping and treatment equipment to ensure potable water pressure.

Typical Duties

Perform assigned Central Control Center shift duties. Involves: Operate, monitor and control water system and associated equipment such as pumps, valves and natural gas engines at wells, reservoirs and booster sites by means of a central computer system. Interpret computer data concerning water pressures, well production, reservoir levels, and equipment status in the distribution system. Turn wells on and off remotely to insure adequate water levels in reservoirs. Adjust flow control valves remotely using boosters to transfer water between reservoirs.
Assess status of water production. Involves: Identify problems and initiate solutions. Monitor valves and pumping stations to control water storage levels and water treatment plants production rates in accordance with operational strategies to maximize allotment of surface water. Determine daily plant production requirements. Adjust well production and distribution to make room for surface water. Coordinate daily water orders with Water Plant Superintendents in response to daily consumption. Assist field operators and equipment technicians to troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs.
Monitor lift station, chlorine, chlorine residual, intrusion and power failure alarms. Involves: Monitor and adjust remote chlorine feeders. Notify personnel of malfunctions. Direct field operators by radio to water system facilities and providing instruction as required. Respond to and coordinate critical equipment malfunctions and other emergencies with field personnel. Work in coordination with Fire Department, Utility supervisors and other agencies during power outages, line breaks, fires or other emergencies. Input records to maintain computer databases and generating reports for management. Determine Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) set points.
