City of Durango is Hiring a Receptionist/Cashier Rec Center Part Time Near Durango, CO

Part Time, 15 to 25 hours/week
Hours vary, but must be available to work early mornings, nights & weekends
To perform a variety of reception duties including operating a multi-line telephone, greeting, screening and assisting customers. Access control, activity and pass registration, cash handling and accounting. Management of check-out equipment and merchandise sales. To perform routine clerical duties and a variety of related tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
  1. General public reception by telephone and in-person.
  2.  Performs access control and monitors ID systems.
  3. Greet and assist the public in a courteous and responsive manner; locate staff, direct visitors to scheduled meetings, activities and programs within the facility; provide information and directions for the City’s attractions;
  4. Performs class registrations, facility admission sales, room rentals and locker reservations on the computer, involving cash handling and accounting.
  5. Monitor and control check-out equipment and sell merchandise.
  6. Operate a wide variety of office equipment including computers, typewriters, copiers and facsimile machines, etc.
  7. Assist with the establishment and enforcement of policies for the facility.
  8. Assists with inventories and ordering supplies and equipment for the facility.
Other Duties:
  1. Ensure adherence to safe work practices.
  2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. 
  3. Assist other departments as necessary.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Knowledge of:
Operations, services and activities of a municipal recreation facility.
Modern and complex principles and practices of recreation services and facility management.
Modern office procedures, methods and equipment, including computers, computerized cash register, ten key adding machine, copiers, and facsimile machines.
Mathematical principles and practices.
Cash handling techniques.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of office equipment, including a cash register, computer, ten key adding machine, copier, and facsimile machine.
Operate a multi-line telephone system and direct calls appropriately.
Deal effectively and diplomatically with the public.
Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Operate a computer and relevant software programs.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for successful job performance.
Maintain mental capacity that allows the capability of effectively interacting and communicating with others.
 
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a typical indoor office setting;
Mostly sedentary with periods of mobility and light physical activity.

Physical Activities:
Ability to effectively interact with other individuals (co-workers, public, children, etc.);
Use and normal maintenance of office machines, (copier, computer, printer, fax, etc.);
Handling of files weighing up to 10 lbs. including floor to waist and overhead lifting;
Ability to lift, push and move office supplies weighing up to 50 lbs;
Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects;
Ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time;
Frequent use of phone handset and repetitive use of hand & fingers to take messages, operate office equipment, use computer keyboard & computer mouse and to perform other office tasks;
Acceptable eyesight to read printed material & a computer monitor and to operate office 
equipment;
Acceptable hearing to communicate with others in person or through telephonic means;
Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others via the phone, at meetings and to greet and assist visitors.Education or Formal Training and Licenses:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR/AED and First Aid Certificate.

Experience:
One year of customer service and clerical experience, including cash handling.
