City of Durango is Hiring a Customer Service AMI Technician Near Durango, CO

We are seeking a AMI Technician committed to delivering accurate water billing and exceptional service to the Durango community. Reporting to the Customer Service Manager, you’ll be responsible for reading water meters and involved with utility billing services with a focus on customer satisfaction. This role involves understanding, installing, programming, and operating Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technologies and systems for water meters and meter reading equipment within the city of Durango's water distribution system.What You’ll Do in This Role: 
  • Perform meter readings, report leaks, and investigate high or low readings.
  • Set up new accounts and handle delinquent accounts, including routine and seasonal shut-offs and turn-ons. Standy on evenings of shut-offs is required with overtime work as needed.
  • Maintain records and data logs, providing detailed reports on meter operations and issues.
  • Install and maintain AMI apparatus and communication equipment, including meter electronics, radios, repeaters, enhanced repeaters, and collectors.
  • Monitor AMI system performance to ensure functionality, communication, accurate data reporting, and correct billing.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with AMI technologies and water meters.
  • Repair and replace water meter components, such as radiosand registers.
  • Program water meters and their account profiles, adjusting settings for specific models, sizes, and classifications.
  • Operate maintenance tools and vehicles, manage inventory, and perform regular equipment inspections.
  • Utilize software for data management and report activities and issues to supervisors.
  • Greet the public and explain water service policies clearly and thoroughly.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community members, clients, and city staff, providing effective communication and timely responses.
You Have:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of field related maintenance experience, preferably including Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology; this includes water meter operation, maintenance, reading, and utility billing services.
  • Skill using various computer systems and software, including AMI and ERP databases, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word), and asset management applications.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide clear explanations and resolve customer water issues and concerns.
  • Ability to maintain thorough knowledge of city codes and ordinances relevant to water and sewer services, including responsibilities shared by the city and property owners.
