City of Denton is Hiring a Maintenance Tech I-III Near Denton, TX

This requisition expires on April 26, 2024, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.
Hiring Range: $18.25/hour - $28.84/hour Depending on Qualifications
Pay Range: Minimum - Midpoint for Positions
Maintenance Tech I: $18.25 - $23.73
Maintenance Tech II: $19.16 - $24.91
Maintenance Tech III: $22.18 - $28.84
Responsible for maintaining Water Production grounds and equipment.Essential Functions:
  • Assists with the inventory of building and equipment maintenance materials and spare parts
  • Complies with safety procedures for the crew activities during confined space, including electrical and chemical isolations
  • Conducts inspections of functioning equipment on a routine basis and records findings in the computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)
  • Conducts structural maintenance and repair to all plant facilities
  • Assists with preventive and simple corrective maintenance
  • Assists with installation of new or modified mechanical process equipment
  • Performs maintenance with the use of, common tools, power tools and some precision tools
  • Performs mowing, weed trimming, edging, and general landscaping duties
  • Utilizes computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) for documenting preventative and corrective maintenance and unscheduled or emergency work orders
  • Assists with repairs on operating equipment for chemical application
  • Assists with installation and repairs of various plumbing/piping materials in a professional manner following manufacturer’s recommended procedures
  • Uses and maintains common shop equipment, and specialized shop equipment
  • Uses cleaning equipment, chemicals, and tools to perform custodial duties
  • Uses ladders, scaffolding, and proper safety equipment to perform maintenance on basins, storage tanks and elevated storage tanks.
  • Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance

Maintenance Tech I 
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
AND
  • One-year (1) experience in maintaining water treatment plant, chemical or industrial equipment
OR 
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Maintenance Tech II
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
AND
  • Class "D" TCEQ Water License or the ability to obtain within the least allowable amount of time possible
AND
  • Three-years (3) experience in repair of water plants, industrial mechanical equipment or a related field
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Maintenance Tech III
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
AND
  • Class "C" TCEQ Surface Water License or the ability to obtain within the least allowable amount of time possible
AND
  • Five-years (5) experience in repair of water plants, industrial mechanical equipment or a related field
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
Core Competencies: 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to use a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
  • Basic troubleshooting skills
Preferences:
  • Previous experience maintaining water treatment equipment
  • Possession of a current, valid certification in surface water treatment from the TCEQ
  • A Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must pass a physical examination
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must be able to work an on-call rotation
  • Must be able to work at various heights
  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather

The essential functions of this position require the use of drills, grinders, hoists, common hand tools, forklift, pneumatic tools, computers, vibration testing equipment, and other specialty tools; requires the use of protective equipment (i.e. special breathing apparatus) for confined space entry or for handling chemicals.
 
Environmental Factors:
The essential functions of this position are performed primarily in untreated and partially treated water. Incumbents are exposed to various weather conditions approximately 80% of the work year and are occasionally exposed to chemicals, loud noises, fumes, hazardous gases and dust; work at heights, in depths, confined spaces, and electrical conditions associated with the operation of a Water Production Plant.
