City of Denton is Hiring a Camp Supervisor - Preschool Near Denton, TX

This requisition expires on July 5, 2024, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date. 
Responsible for the supervision, planning, and coordination of structured activities for day camp, including but not limited to, sports, arts and crafts, nature/outdoor, and other general activities for Preschool and school-age children. If Aquatics, may also be responsible for food and beverage operations, as directed.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
AQUATICS (CONCESSIONS/GIFT SHOP)
  • Train, supervise and ensure concession facilities adhere to all applicable regulations and health codes, especially food handling.
  • Monitor concession facility activity to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Monitor, track, and ensure controls for food and beverages purchases.
  • Monitor food and beverages inventory to ensure orders are completed timely to ensure appropriate stock; coordinate delivery of all food supplies with distributors.
  • Evaluate, identify, and create opportunities to promote revenue through concessions sales for admissions, cabanas, birthday parties, rentals, and special events.
  • Monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Maintain concession records, including but not limited to, food and beverage sales, inventory, events, and other concession sales; perform administrative duties and assist with concessions promotional material and content, as needed.
  • Ensure assigned areas maintain cleanliness and food and/or beverages are stored appropriately.
  • Perform all opening procedures with concessions staff, including but not limited to, preparation of concession facility and products for daily shift. 
PRESCHOOL & SCHOOL-AGE CAMP
  • Plan, organize, and implement various recreational activities for children and teens; collect and track payments, as appropriate.
  • Supervise assigned staff, and coordinate activities and special events; work as camp staff, as appropriate, based on staff-to-participant ratios.
  • Lead, supervise, and conduct classes, activities, and special events.
  • Supervise children and respond immediately, in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary.
  • Follow appropriate training and ensure an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and recreational experiences.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment for children including but not limited to, equipment and materials; ensure appropriate items are accessible, appropriate and in good condition for child use.
  • Assist in the enforcement of department, site, and program rules and/or regulations, and safety precautions.
  • Administer medication and maintain medical records and logs.
  • Safely drive a 15-passenger van and transport children to various locations daily.
  • Assist with the maintenance of all child records, including but not limited to, attendance, discipline, and injury; communicate appropriate information with parents/guardians, as directed.
  • Control retention and inventory of site equipment and supplies, maintain records, and request replacements, as needed; notify leadership immediately if equipment and/or supplies present a potential hazard. 
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with selection, training, supervising, and evaluating staff; recommend assignment/assignment change, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program (online training is not valid); and,
  • If Aquatics, two (2) years’ experience in customer service, food handling, or related field; and,
  • If Aquatics, one (1) year of supervisory experience in food handling,
  • If Preschool/School-Age, one (1) year experience in day camp, afterschool, recreation, or related field; and,
  • If Preschool/School-Age, three (3) months of supervisory experience,
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • Must be able to complete the City of Denton Cash Handling Training by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
  • Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program (online training is not valid).
  • If Aquatics, must be at least seventeen (17) years of age.
  • If Aquatics, must acquire job specific certifications as determined by program If Preschool/School-Age, must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • If Preschool/School-Age, must attend and successfully complete the City’s Defensive Driving Course (DDC) and Van training as soon as possible after employment, if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business.
  • If for Preschool Director position, must meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Service (TXDFPS) Minimum Standards of Care for Child-Care Centers within 12 months of employment.
  • If for Preschool positions, must be able to pass FBI fingerprinting and background check as required by TXDFPS childcare licensing.
  • If Preschool, must completed required 24-30 hours of DFPS training.
  • If Preschool to Kindergarten positions, must be able to swim and be prepared to swim in emergencies.
SAFETY
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
 WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; art supplies, food service equipment, outdoor gear, recreational and sports equipment, including but not limited to, tables, chairs, coolers, games, and inflatables. Fifteen- (15) passenger van.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand and leg motions.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Environment: Works inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather, climate-controlled environment, noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
    • Must be able to work overtime or outside of normal business hours, as required.
    • Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • Must be able to work the designated summer seasonal program schedule, dates will adjust annually, Monday - Friday with shift times varying between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm .
    • Must work the Citywide special event, date will adjust annually.
    • Must be able to complete the City of Denton Cash Handling Training by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • If Preschool/School-Age, must be able to obtain City of Denton Van Driving Certificate by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
    • If Preschool/School-Age, must be able to complete the Rockwall Safety Training Course by the designated timeframe.
    • If Preschool, must be able to complete TXDFPS childcare trainings by the designated timeframe.
    • If Aquatics, must be able to work on a rotating schedule seven (7) days per week.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions. If Preschool/School-Age, must be able to drive a 15-passenger van with children in attendance.
