Utility Equipment Operator I - Wastewater Collections
Pay Grade: U108 Dept: Utilities Collections / Maintenance
Exempt: No Reports to: Foreman
Hours: 40 per week Date: October, 2023
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled work in the operation of motorized heavy equipment. Work involves operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, loader, multiple size excavators, skid steer with multiple attachments, box blade, boring machine, and all equipment listed under the Maintenance Worker classification, including driving dump trucks. This list of equipment is only illustrative and is not intended to describe every piece of equipment that would potentially be operated under this classification. Work also includes loading trucks, assisting in road repair work, maintenance and construction of wastewater lines, digging and covering trenches, patching roads. Employee is also responsible for policing work sites, and performing minor preventive maintenance on equipment. Employee must exercise some independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of the Utility Foreman.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma, basic knowledge and safe operational skills of heavy equipment, Class B Florida Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements, and knowledge in working in a wastewater systems. The individual must be in good physical condition and have ability to accept and understand directions. Within one year must be CPR / AED qualified and after probation being available for on-call work rotation is required.
REASONING ABILITY: The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram forms. The applicant must also be able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: This job requires walking, standing, pushing, bending, stooping, equipment operation and driving. The employee will work outside in various weather conditions. Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in wastewater and may handle chemicals.

Vision: 20/20 or Corrected to 20/100
Hearing: Normal to very high noise levels
