Job SummaryThe Park Ranger/ Maintenance Worker maintain grounds of city buildings and playgrounds as well as clean, repair, and maintain building and equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Department. Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age and have earned a High School diploma or equivalent
Must be able to operate a riding lawn mower and a push lawn mower
Must have a good work ethic and complete tasks in a thorough manner
Must be able to work without supervision and be able to follow written/verbal instructions
Must have own transportation and have a valid Michigan chauffeur driver’s license with an excellent driving record
Relevant experience in lawn care, landscaping, or gardening and able to operate locks and keys
Duties & Responsibilities
Cuts grass with riding mower and/or push mower
Rake lawns using hand rake and/or power rake
Remove grubs and weeds around bushes, trees, flower beds and trim hedges
Edges and trims identified areas with power equipment
Remove debris, picks up and carts away paper, rubbish, and cleans cooking grills
Repairs and paints benches, tables, guardrails, pavilions, walls, buildings (internal and external), and assists in repair of roads, sidewalks, building, and mechanical equipment, using hand tools.
Cleans comfort stations (bathrooms) and other buildings which includes sweeping, mopping, cleaning sinks, toilets, and commodes
Moves picnic tables and re-arranges as needed
Sweeps pavilions, tennis courts, sidewalks and main driveways
Unlocks and locks park gates dependent on park schedule
Completes supply and equipment inventories and reports needs to Buildings and Maintenance Supervisor
Inventories play structures, play areas, picnic tables and bleachers reporting potential hazards that might cause harm to park users
Polices park areas and restrooms and assists park users when needed.
Prepares and maintains fields for softball, soccer and football
Transports tools and materials to and from job site using truck
Performs other duties as assigned by crew leader or supervisor

Exposed to outside weather conditions and loud noise levels
Uses tools and equipment that are relative to the position, including animal chemical sprayers, buckets, solvents, shovels, computers, etc.
Specifications (Skills, Mental and Physical)
Must have the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form
Must be able to read at a level to understand procedures and methods related to the job, as well as communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Must have math ability that includes finance skills and algebra
Must be able to complete heavy work that includes exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and/or 250 pounds with assistance of another, often physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work
Must be able to complete work duties that include reaching, handling, fingering, feeling and repetitive motions
Must have hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and receive detailed information through oral communication and/or make fine distinctions in sound
Must have visual acuity for determining accuracy, thoroughness of work and observation of general surroundings and activities
Must be able to adapt to changing situations, work well with others and participate in a team-oriented environment
Must be able to be customer oriented and maintain excellent customer service
