City of Dayton is Hiring a Director of Information Technology Near Dayton, TX

Job Summary:

This job primarily acts as a liaison between technical and non-technical people within the City. This position is expected to have strong customer service and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills are a must for this extremely sensitive, highly integral part of City operations from both the hardware and software perspectives. More than merely repair, this position is intended to create a technology foundation for the future of the City.

Specific Duties:

  • Maintain and update City computer networks and applications as required. Maintain hierarchy and security of City data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve all hardware and software problems as incidents arise and are reported by the departments.
  • Escalate serious requests to the City Manager for funding, as needed.
  • Ability to replace or repair defective parts and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications used by the City.
  • Maintain daily off-site data backup.
  • Conduct technology training for new users as needed.
  • Attend courses to develop and keep skills and knowledge current
  • Comply with any continuing education requirements as needed
  • Perform routine server monitoring and performance benchmarking
  • Monitor and remove viruses, spyware, and other non-authorized software 
  • Maintain an inventory of all City computer hardware, software, and repair parts. Submit inventory annually to the Finance Director.
  • Performing regular patches and updates to the City’s accounting software.
  • Serve as liaison to outside vendors that provide support for technology equipment and materials.
  • Monitor and maintain purchased software licenses used by the City.
  • Assist the Assistant City Manager with the planning of technology training, implementation of technology plans, and selection of technical equipment and software.
  • Assist the Finance Director in budgeting and tracking City technology expenses by approving all purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations.
  • Develop and maintain an Acceptable Use Policy for Computers and Networks for the City of Dayton.
  • Develop and implement a city-wide technology equipment replacement schedule and update these costs with the Finance Director in a 5-year plan.
  • Maintain annual PCI compliance certifications on all required devices.
  • Recommend the disposal/sale of obsolete equipment and replace it as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain the City’s website and social media presence as the City WebMaster and assign access permissions to required City personnel.
  • Participate in contract negotiations for computer hardware, software, maintenance, and related services.
  • Maintain a list of all City-owned mobile phone contracts and renew as needed.
  • All other duties assigned by supervisor/manager.

Equipment used and maintained (not all-encompassing): Computers, data projectors, tablets (PC & Apple), mobile devices (PC & Apple), printers, AV switches. MS Office products, InCode 10, iWorQ

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to efficiently communicate in written and oral communications
  • Ability to operate commercial/mobile telephones
  • Ability to use a computer for a prolonged period of time in a seated position. 
  • May be required to carry, hold, lift, pull, or push items or supplies with a maximum weight of 50 pounds

Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses:

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in Computer Technology or related field. Certifications such as MCP, A are preferred.
  • Minimum of six (8) years prior experience with providing workstation and network support.
  • The ability to prioritize, be attentive to details, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional client service is required. 
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills required.
  • A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects. Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

A combination of education and experience that indicates a level of skill and knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties of this position may be considered in lieu of the education 

and the experience requirements listed above.
