Overview of Responsibilities: Each day the Camp Manager will: check-in with all camps, staff, volunteers, participant parents, prepare schedules, camper rosters, manage and shop for food and equipment supplies. Work with local vendors to arrange quality programs and activities.
Programs Camp Manager Oversees:- Camp Putah (Day camp with one overnight a week, in Davis)
- Trekkers (Overnight camping trips, across the state)
- Summer Sampler (Day camp, in Davis)
- Horse Camp (Vendor led, in Davis)
- Other Recreation vendor programs
The Camp Manager will go out to each camp on a weekly basis to check in with staff and volunteers, help set up supplies and activities and support staff and volunteers as needed.
The Camp Manager is responsible for the Camp Putah Volunteers. For this program the Camp Manager will advertise the volunteer program, interview candidates, work with the volunteer coordinator to collect and oversee volunteer paperwork, train volunteers and supervise and support volunteers throughout the duration of summer.
Timeline of Job: Work approximately 10-15 hours per week from March – mid-May. Work 30-40 hours per week from mid-May through August 18.
Summer Camps being June 12 and run through August 18.
Extension of hours available between August 18 to September 1 if candidate is available for camp debrief, clean up, and administrative work.
Position:OUTDOOR EDUCATION & SPECIALTY CAMPS PROGRAM MANAGER Community Services Specialist IV
Department: City of DavisParks &Community Services
Hours: Monday – Friday:
- 7:00am on call to support Camp Directors
- 7:30-8:00am (sometimes 9:00am) to 3:00/4:00pm
- Camp Putah operates overnight from Thursday at 8:00am to Friday at 12:00pm. The Camp Manager will often work on Thursday evenings until 7:00 – 9:00pm (not every week) and will adjust their schedule to accommodate for these late nights.
- Occasional support on Sundays for Trekkers program ‘prep’ day. Not needed in office but available if Trekkers staff need assistance over the phone or in person.
Wages: $17.83-$18.27/hr; Community Services Specialist IV
Status/Selection Process: Temporary part time, no benefits. Applicants will be screened according to experience relevant to this position. Those most qualified will be invited to an individual or small group interview.
Duties: Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Camp Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of their assigned camp, including (but not limited to):
- Travel weekly to each assigned camp to conduct check-ins with all staff, volunteers, and participant parents
- Provide support to camp staff and volunteers as needed
- Preparing staff and camp schedules
- Managing camper rosters
- Inventorying, shopping for, and replenishing food, camp equipment, and supplies at each camp location
- Work alongside local vendors to arrange quality programs and activities
Minimum Qualifications:- Possess a valid California Driver’s License and have own vehicle (mileage for travel will be reimbursed)
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR before the start of programs
- Experience overseeing large youth program groups
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers
- Knowledge of summer camp programs, camping, outdoor excursions, and outdoor recreation skills
- Knowledge of best practices in youth development, including behavior management and positive role modeling
- Ability to demonstrate strong skills in leadership and team building
- Ability to provide strong internal and external customer service
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, camp staff, and other City employees
- Ability to display good judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Sexual Discrimination and Harassment, COVID-19 Safety Protocols, etc.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
