Job Summary The Community Development Project Specialist supports the Community Development Director and Project Managers by exploring and establishing best practices for rapid development review and cross-departmental systems building. Job Description Overview The Community Development Project Specialist supports the Community Development Director and Project Managers by exploring and establishing best practices for rapid development review and cross-departmental systems building. Community Development Project Specialists are responsible for directly engaging with community stakeholders by attending public meetings, community events, and staying informed on current community development initiatives. The primary responsibilities of the Community Development Project Specialist include fostering strong relationships, conducting due diligence, identifying community development projects in need of City support, and providing follow-up support to facilitate successful project implementation. Essential Functions 1 Conducts due diligence activities, including research, data collection, and analysis, to support project decision-making and ensure compliance with regulations and community goals. 2 Assists in the preparation and review of project documents, reports, and presentations. 3 Provides follow-up support to clients, stakeholders, and community members by coordinating meetings, disseminating information, and ensuring timely response to inquiries. 4 Collaborates with internal teams to track project progress, monitor milestones, and ensure adherence to project timelines. 5 Ensures projects are responsive to and reflective of the needs and interests of residents, and community members. 6 Works closely and collaboratively with communities and City departments to assist in the completion of project milestones. 7 Builds and maintains strong relationships with local organizations, community leaders, and neighborhood associations to foster collaboration and gather input. 8 Organizes and facilitates community meetings, workshops, and events to promote transparency and gather feedback on CDU projects. 9 Serves as a liaison between the City and the community in close collaboration with other departments involved in the development review process, addressing concerns, answering inquiries, and providing timely updates. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, urban studies, real estate, real estate development, or related field. Experience 1-2 years of experience in community development or urban planning with a public facing component that involves community engagement, community liaising, and/or real estate project management. Licenses and Certifications None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 1 Knowledge in employing inclusive and participatory approaches to engage underrepresented communities, ensuring equitable representation and diverse perspectives in decision-making processes. 2 Background knowledge of municipal development review processes, understanding the steps and procedures involved in obtaining approvals and permits for place-based projects. 3 Skilled in synthesizing and presenting community feedback and input to inform project development and decision-making processes, ensuring that community voices are considered and integrated into project plans and outcomes. 4 Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to work with city departmental executives to ensure project success. 5 Skilled in successfully navigating complex, nuanced, or novel project concepts through technical processes and compliance requirements. 6 Proficiency in real estate and economic development project management, including the ability to assist in coordinating projects, ensuring effective communication and timely completion. 7 Ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences clearly, ensuring that community members have a clear understanding of development projects, their potential impacts, and opportunities for involvement. Salary Range $49,805.08 - $62,256.35 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
