Job Summary

The Cadet will be sponsored by the Crestview Police Department to attend as a full-time Cadet with a local Law Enforcement Police Academy. Progression to a full-time, regular position upon successful completion of the Police Academy and becoming certified as an officer in the State of Florida, depending on the number of vacancies.

The City of Crestview will pay 100% of the sponsored Cadet’s tuition, books, and academy uniforms. In addition, while the Cadet attends the academy they are considered a City of Crestview temporary employee and will be paid hourly up to 40 hours per week for the hours they are attending the academy.
THIS POSITION IS FOR THE Summer 2022 POLICE ACADEMY.

Starting pay is 17.50 per hour.

Ability to gain knowledge of basic life saving techniques (CPR/First Aid).

Ability to gain knowledge of current law enforcement procedures and operations.

Ability to gain knowledge of Federal, State, and local criminal laws and ordinances and the criminal justice system operations.

Ability to write technical reports and correspondence.

Ability to conduct interviews.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with citizens, co-workers and managers.

Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and record them clearly and completely.

Ability to remain calm and react quickly in emergencies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with the public and enforce laws and ordinances tactfully, firmly, and impartially.

Ability to effectively speak in public as well as set up and deliver presentations in public settings.

Skilled in communicating with others, both verbally and in writing.

Skilled in the use of hand gun, impact weapon, police radio, and related standard issue equipment.


Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED. Possession of a State of Florida valid Florida Driver's License. United States Citizenship and at least 19 years of age. No convictions of a felony or a misdemeanor which involved perjury or a false statement. Not have pled guilty or nolo contendere after July 1, 1981, to a felony or a misdemeanor which involves perjury or a false statement, whether or not adjudication was withheld or sentence suspended Not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
A Cadet must pass a background check AND One of the following:
1. College Degree
2. Military Experience
3. Meet an area of under representation of the City of Crestview
4. Bi-Lingual (Spanish/Portuguese/Creole or ASL)


Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects (150 pounds), such as in the event of chasing and subduing a suspect resisting arrest. Some tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, animals. Tasks include working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Standard body gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment based on assignment including, but not limited to, various types of body armor and safety gear.
