City of Covington is Hiring a Gas Meter Technician Near Covington, GA

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintaining gas system properties and infrastructure by grounds maintenance activities, painting, upkeep, and documentation of infrastructure to prevent atmospheric corrosion and promote the safe operation of the gas distribution system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Keeps gas system properties, right of ways, and infrastructure visually appealing by mowing, weed-eating, and litter disposal/removal.

· Properly makes preparations of gas infrastructure, including; meters, farm-taps, metering stations, and regulator stations, for painting and applies paint to prevent atmospheric corrosion as required by federal regulations and operation standards.

· Completing visual inspections on gas infrastructures to determine their condition and compliance with company standards.

· Takes and records cathodic protection readings on all above ground gas infrastructures.

· Installs or replaces pipeline markers and signs as needed.

· Completes paperwork correctly and promptly.

· Monitors inventories of paint, supplies, pipeline markers, and warning signs to determine the availability of materials and supplies needed for the gas system.

· Maintains equipment and to assure proper operation and safety concerns.

· Ensures compliance with city safety, maintenance, and security requirements

· Ensuring materials, supplies and equipment are safely stored in assigned areas in a neat and orderly manner

· Keep vehicle properly stocked and clean of any debris, trash, or spilled paint/supplies.

· Keep all clean and trash removed as assigned.

· All other duties as assigned by the Gas Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

(A) High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

(B) Experience in the proper use of lawn maintenance tools, paint preparation and painting tools, other small tools and equipment.

(C) Valid Georgia Driver License

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of small lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to make decisions commensurate with responsibility.

· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

· Ability to write simple correspondence.

· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

· Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

· Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Proficient personal computer skills
  • Ability to accurately enter data into computer with reasonable speed

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Lawn mowers, weed-eaters, leaf blowers, wire brushes, sanders, grinders, and other small tools.

The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is occasionally performed in emergency and stressful situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to escaping high pressure gas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate occasionally requires hearing protection while operating equipment.
