The Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety is a division of The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department who has a diverse work force who are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service to our students, and community in which we serve. Examples of Duties

The Academic Program Advisor I serves the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety (CSRIPS) as a student liaison and collaborates with all departments to promote a positive, student-centered experience. To execute the functions of this role well, the Academic Program Advisor I must be able to communicate professionally and respectfully with students, internal stakeholders, and all other members of the CSRIPS with regularity. The Academic Program Advisor I must embrace and promote a diverse work and learning environment. They must also facilitate collaboration and teamwork across the institution to support student success at all levels. This position is forward facing with the public so candidates must feel comfortable communicating with customers through varies avenues of communication as well as the responsibilities listed below.

  • Provides direct student advising and counseling, using knowledge of CSRIPS policies.
  • Assists the CSRIPS Program Directors in identifying overall student needs and assists in developing programs and solutions to respond accordingly.
  • Evaluates CSRIPS data and offers suggestions for change and improvement. Designs and implements suggested changes as needed.
  • Creates and maintains student information systems as needed.
  • Prepares, maintains, and executes for publication the class schedules for fall, winter, spring, and summer terms by coordinating with Compliance Coordinator and Operations Supervisor, including entering and maintaining course information for the current and upcoming terms;
  • Provides a variety of outreach and support services for assigned student services program, including admissions, enrollment services, tuition options, orientation, or other assigned program; provide individual case management for program participants.
  • Assists program participants to obtain and maintain program enrollment; recruits, refers and registers students to assigned programs; assists student with completing and assures accuracy and completeness of required forms and applications; determines applicant eligibility, waivers and enroll students as appropriate; refers students to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Monitors the attendance and progress of program participants; counsels students concerning education progress and other external options.
  • Confers with students, parents, personnel, and the community to exchange information, coordinates activities and resolves issues or concerns regarding program activities and student progress; initiates and receives phone calls; responds to inquiries and provide information.
  • Assists with job and college fairs and other events to promote CSRIPS programs and services.
  • Maintains student information into MyCSRIPS or other assigned computer system; generates computerized reports as needed; updates and maintains related databases, websites, and other computer information as assigned by the position.
  • Compiles information, prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to student progress, information, attendance and assigned activities; conducts surveys and analyzes related data for various program requirements; establishes and maintains filing systems.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment including a calculator, copier, computer and assigned software. Trains and provides work direction to assigned staff or other personnel assigned to the program.
  • Counsels students with transitioning out of assigned programs after individual goals are met; perform follow-up with former program participants as required.
  • Composes and mails correspondence related to program activities and student progress.
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required. Some college/minimum of an Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in an administrative support position, preferably in an academic institution/training environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers using various methods (i.e. phone, email, in person); strong interpersonal skills.

Supplemental Information

WORKSCHEDULE
Candidate must be available to work a 25-hour work week. The schedule is to be determined.
