GENERAL PURPOSE: 04/2022 |
Performs tasks related to all library materials designated for circulation. |
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: |
Receives direct supervision from the Director of Library Services. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Welcomes patrons to the library and provides them with cheerful, professional, and efficient customer service. Follows circulation procedures to check materials in and out of the library. Shelves library materials by Dewey Decimal system or alphabetically by author. Answers general informational and directional questions, referring more detailed questions to Reference. Maintains circulation statistics and assists in accounting for all money received at the circulation desk. Maintains accurate records of overdue materials, prepares overdue notices, and takes necessary action to bring about the return of overdue materials. Renews existing patrons' accounts and establishes new accounts and issuing library cards. Processes reserve requests by flagging books, notifying patrons and monitoring the status of books and requests. Maintains the periodical collection. Directs patrons with donations to the Friends of the Library book processing area. Works as a team member with the library staff to perform all essential duties as required to achieving successful library operations. Assists other staff with planning and execution of programs as needed, including adult and children's programs, computer assistance and processing of library materials. May be required to clock in during holiday closings to empty book-drop and AV-drop. Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function. |
PERIPHERAL DUTIES: |
May serve as a member of various employee committees. Must be able to work nights and weekends. Other Duties as assigned. |
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |
Graduation from high school or equivalent, One (1) year of library related experience preferred; general bookkeeping experience and/or clerical experience are desirable. |
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: |
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: |
Knowledge of computers; Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and record keeping; Knowledge of library practices and procedures; Skills to use modern office and audiovisual equipment including, but not limited to computer, scanner, copier, and calculator; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, citizens, patrons, and the general public; Ability to manage time and assigned work; Ability to deal effectively and patiently with public and coworkers; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to handle stressful situations; Ability to understand and follow instructions. |

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: |
Telephone; copy machine; personal computer including library automation, accounting, word processing and spreadsheet software. |
