LEISURE SERVICES
Job Summary
Performs groundskeeping and custodial tasks to ensure cleanliness and upkeep of City parks under general supervision.
Examples of work performed: opens and closes public restrooms and parks including nights and weekends; checks buildings and grounds for maintenance needs and advises the supervisor; performs grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, weed eating, mulching, and basic landscape planting/maintenance. Maintains flower boxes, cleans restrooms and office, empties trash, inspects equipment and performs routine equipment maintenance on a regular basis. Monitors park usage, explains rules and answers visitors' questions. Assists in setting up for special events. May maintain athletic fields, including mowing, dragging and lining the fields. Performs related tasks as needed.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic custodial, carpentry, plumbing, and groundskeeping practices
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of tools and equipment to be used in performance of duties
Knowledge of ball field maintenance
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to enforce parks rules firmly, tactfully, and impartially
Ability to operate a light motor vehicle and mowing equipment
Ability to communicate and work with public in a courteous manner
Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends
Qualifications
The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Essential Functions
Job requires good hand/eye coordination and dexterity, while using tools and operating mowers and pick-up truck. Requires frequent stooping and crouching while working in flower beds, climbing trees, etc. Frequently walks and reaches with arms and hands. Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts up to I 00 pounds. Regularly exposed to extreme weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, and wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
