City Of Commerce is Hiring a PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM SPECIALIST Near CA 90040, CA

Under general supervision, provides journey level coordinative duties in support of the recreation performing arts program; including organizing, designing, directing and conducting a variety of performing arts education programs at assigned facilities; supervises staff and program participants; choreographic, rehearses, and directs musicals, dance and other performances; plans and coordinates a variety of performing arts education programs, supervises the staff and participants involved in production, and ensures programs are delivered in a safe manner.The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
  • Plans, organizes, supervises, schedules and participates in performing arts education programs; provides hands-on leadership to participants in planning all of the logistics, roles, dancing, singing, acting, and in figuring out all of the ins and outs of each scene, blocking with the participants sets cues lines for when each microphone will go on and when each light will go on; works collaboratively with music instructor contractor who rehearses songs, strengthens vocals and assists in managing the backstage house during performances.
  • Schedules and coordinates a variety of performing arts education programs, activities, and special events; ensures activities are in compliance with all laws, policies, regulations, goals and safety standards.
  • Supervises, trains and schedules staff; plans, prioritizes and assigns tasks; monitors program events, and performing arts activities, and ensures that staff adheres to policies and procedures for efficient and safe operations.
  • Coordinates and oversees children's performing arts education programs and events, special recreation sites, games, activities, and classes; organizes and promotes alternative activities, and special programs suited to the needs of participants.
  • Publicizes and markets city arts program productions; develops program fliers, coordinates for proofing and graphics to print and publishes by posting on social media.
  • May plan and conduct field trips and group outings.
  • Enforces rules and safety standards; leads program activities, and assists participants in performing arts activities and special programs; reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, and security issues.
  • Provides information and assistance to visitors and guests; resolves problems and customer service inquiries within scope of authority; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Develops and maintains a relationship with the local high schools for advance placement of student participants and local community colleges to encourage continuing education and demonstrate career opportunities.
  • Operates a variety of transportation vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, regulations and procedures; assists in maintaining general appearance of facilities by cleaning areas in and around the facility, arranging equipment and other general maintenance duties.
  • Develops participant interest and enthusiasm.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
 High school diploma or equivalent GED.
 AND 
Two (2) years experience in youth performing arts programs.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must obtain Class C with passenger endorsement within 90 day of appointment.
CPR/AED/First Aid Safety certifications required within 90 days of appointment.
 
Special Requirements:
Required to pass a background investigation.
