City of Commerce City is Hiring a Principal Planner (Supervisor) Near Center, CO

The City of Commerce City is looking for someone awesome to join our team as a Principal Planner. This role involves leading the development review and zoning administration staff and performing advanced and high-level current planning activities. As a senior-level professional and technical planning position, the Principal Planner will support various boards and commissions, the City Council, the City Manager’s Office, and the Planning Manager.
 
To be the perfect fit for this role, the ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of urban planning, including professional language and terminology, and an understanding of municipal planning laws, regulations, processes, standards, and trends. They should also be comfortable with public speaking in neighborhood meetings and public hearings.
 
The Principal Planner will be responsible for taking on high-level tasks, such as assisting Planners I and II, coordinating and holding difficult conversations with applicants, and taking on complex development review projects. They can also expect to assist in and coordinate the creation or editing of standard operating procedures. They will play an important role in building the Planning leadership team and promoting teamwork within the planning division.
 
To qualify for this position, you'll need a Master's degree in Planning, Urban Design or a related field from an accredited college or university, along with at least five years of experience in planning. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, or a related field from an accredited college or university, along with eight years of planning experience, will also be considered. You should also have at least two years of supervisory or lead work experience. You may still be considered if you don't have the exact qualifications listed but have equivalent training and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additionally, a valid driver's license is a must-have for this role. While it's not required, having an AICP certification is preferred.

Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.
 
The hiring range is $86,083 - $116,212/annually.

Master’s degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in planning, or Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Design or related field from an accredited college or university with eight years of planning experience. Two years of supervisory or lead work experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid driver’s license. AICP preferred.
