JOBSUMMARY

This position oversees the inspection,maintenance and repair of the treatment plant and/or pump stations andfacilities by coordinating technical, administrative and supervisory work asrequired. The incumbent works withinbroad policy and organizational guidelines and does independent planning andimplementation, reporting progress of major activities through periodicconferences and meetings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Provides input to work plans and coordinates all preventive maintenance and repair work at the City’s treatment plant and pump stations, as well as the installation and testing of new and rebuilt equipment;
  • Directs subordinate crew members to include: scheduling, instructing, planning and assigning work, reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, and recommending employee discipline;
  • Is responsible for scheduling and documenting training for new employees;
  • Implements preventive maintenance programs in coordination with the Planner/Scheduler;
  • Coordinates equipment shutdowns and participates in the inspection, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment;
  • Coordinates equipment shut-downs with Lead/Chief Operators;
  • Ensures the timely resolution of equipment problems to minimize interruptions of service;
  • Supervises general building and grounds maintenance work;
  • Inspects all work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety;
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment;
  • Closes out work orders in CMMS after ensuring work is completed properly;
  • Participates in the Maintenance on-call schedule to provide 24/7 emergency response for plant and stations issues;
  • Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to completing forms and reports, attending and conducting meetings, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc.;
  • Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Four (4) years of relevant prior experience;
  • Must obtain DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) medical examiner’s certificate within fourteen (14) days from the date of hire;
  • Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License;
  • Must possess a South Carolina Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (with tanker endorsement), or be able to obtain within one (1) year from the date of hire or promotion.
  • Required to satisfy all of the Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program benchmarks within two (2) years of start date;

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;
  • Ability to plan or direct others in the sequence of work activities and communicate progress and needs;
  • Ability to enforce policy;
  • Ability to perform work involving the application of principles of logical thinking to diagnose or define problems, collect data and solve abstract problems with widespread unit or organizational impact;
  • Ability to read journals, manuals and professional publications; speak informally to groups of co-workers, staff in other organizational agencies, the general public, people in other organizations; presenting training; composing original reports, training and other written materials using proper language, punctuation, grammar and style;
  • Ability to copy, transcribe, enter or post data or information; and

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Thework is considered heavy in nature and involves exerting up to 100 pounds offorce occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires the followingphysical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing,crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling,lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion,speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORKINGCONDITIONS

Work environment mayinvolve exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/orcold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/ornoxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/causticchemicals; and involves heavy equipment and machinery that could result inbodily harm to co-workers or others.
