Description / Position Overview

HR Technician II

We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing administrative support across various HR systems, such as PeopleSoft, Origami, Laserfische, E-Verify, and NEOGOV. This position primarily focuses on risk management (workers’ compensation, property, and liability) administration, aiding in the efficient functioning of Human Resources programs that support City departments. Secondary responsibilities include supporting functions in HRIS systems, benefits, employee safety programs, compensation programs, organizational development initiatives, recruiting processes, processing employee paperwork, leave administration, records retention, on and off-boarding, and ensuring compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

  • Process employee actions with proper coding and field completion primarily for risk management, including entry of risk inquiries from employees and citizens
  • Provide departments, employees, and citizens with required information as it pertains to risk management programs
  • Contribute to operational efficiency and an improved employee experience
  • Respond to a high volume of customer phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries
  • Perform a variety of administrative duties associated with automated and manual recordkeeping
  • Process employee transactions using PeopleSoft and NeoGov
  • Review all information entered by users for accuracy; assist with training as needed
  • Complete initial reports and intake documents, explain risk management information, initiate processes, and provide information to the team and/or the supervisor
  • Create queries on demand, process daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual queries and reports
  • Serve as a liaison for employment services and risk management for customers and managers via phone, email, and walk-ins
  • Advise HR managers, hiring supervisors, and managers on HR projects, programs, and hiring processes to ensure policies and procedures are followed
  • Use SharePoint to maintain all HR documents and update pages on the Intranet Assist with projects and special assignments as needed
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • An extraordinary ability to multitask with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of HR disciplines
  • Modern office technology and supporting software (Especially Microsoft Business Suite)
Ability to:
  • Handle sensitive information accurately and on time; maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Write and maintain procedure and query manuals

Successful candidates will have

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Three years of full-time human resources or customer service experience
One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of relevant academic coursework beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Some college-level coursework in human resources
  • Has an aPHR, PHR, or other specialized human resources training
  • Experience using Origami Risk
  • Experience using NeoGov
  • Experience using PeopleSoft HR
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments including: shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
