City of Cleveland Heights is Hiring a Fitness Center Assistant Near Ohio, OH

SUMMARY: Incumbent is responsible for enforcing the rules and policies of the fitness center. Incumbent is also responsible for monitoring the fitness center and all the participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate proper use of all fitness center equipment to patrons and provide assistance when needed.
  • Correctly identify which muscle groups each machine targets.
  • Independently adjust each machine to fit the patron’s needs
  • Verbally communicate usage instructions with patron
  • Independently recognize an emergency and provide appropriate care in a timely fashion
  • Clean fitness center equipment and general area.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment to provide a safe and sanitary environment, and notifies supervisor of any problems and/or concerns; 
  • Assists the general public and responds to their questions, comments, and/or concerns
  • Exercises responsibility for the equipment, materials, and personnel used in a given activity
  • Attends scheduled training and related meetings to coordinate and enhance various recreation programs and services
  • Builds positive relationships with patrons
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

None.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Fitness equipment
  • Customer service principles
  • First aid, CPR, and safety precautions utilized in recreation
  • Safe work practices, including proper use of cleaning chemicals
  • Basic maintenance principles

Skill in:

  • Performing manual labor
  • Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment

Ability to:

  • Work cooperatively with people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Work as a team player with other City staff
  • Exercise resourcefulness when meeting new problems
  • Work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and/or receive work direction

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Based on assignment to program or services, incumbents may be subjected to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and intense noises for extended periods of time; and moderate exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and uneven terrain. Assignments to office or administrative work are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
