City of Clermont is Hiring a Code Enforcement Officer- Waterfront Park Near Clermont, FL

General Description

This position is responsible for investigating and enforcing the City Code of Ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code. The employee will be required to work weekends at the Waterfront Park area and explain applicable parking regulations and procedures for disposition of tickets to vehicle operators. The employee will work the remaining shift conducting inspections for code violations under the guidance and general supervision of the Code Enforcement Supervisor.
This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.


Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Primary Duties

  • Patrols the City conducting inspections for violations of the City Code of Ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code. Conducts research to determine facts.
  • Responds to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving municipal violations of law and provides information to the public.
  • Resolves violations through voluntary compliance or, when not possible, sets in motion the statutory civil litigation process through the initiation of a formal violation submitted to the Code Enforcement Special Magistrate.
  • Issues parking citations, violation notices, hearing notices, and affidavits in accordance with Florida Statutes for due process.
  • Schedules follow-up inspections.
  • Provides testimony and evidence for Code Enforcement hearings.
  • Keeps records and creates reports of activities and cases.
  • Performs related clerical activities such as answering phone calls, filing, data entry, etc.
  • Keeps alert to safety hazards in the field.
  • Attends training and meetings.
  • Willingness to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work independently and multi-task
  • Reports to Code Enforcement Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • American Red Cross first aid certificate with CPR training (City may provide training)
  • Two (2) years of experience in dealing with the public in similar enforcement related work, preferably with experience in law enforcement, military, security or other related field.
  • Florida Association of Code Enforcement – Level I certification, or ability to obtain Level 1 certification within six months of employment.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field.

Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions

  • Continual light work and occasional heavy work.
  • Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
  • Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Good eyesight, hearing, and speech.
  • Regular driving of vehicle.
  • The ability to perform outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Employee is exposed to uneven ground and footing
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to accident and injury hazards.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in conflict
Work Environment
Works inside an environmentally controlled space as well as outdoors. Will intermittently work in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time with exposure to site hazards and traffic during inspections. It is essential that the Code Enforcement Officer is alert to safety hazards in the field.
