JOB
This employee performs a wide variety of technical work of considerable difficulty and responsibility in an engineering section in various city departments; assignments may include leading a survey crew in the performance of accurate engineering surveys, and/or technical drawing and drafting for preliminary and final plans, reviewing and revising plans, and serving as liaison and department representative for project related information. Performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Knowledge of: Engineering and architectural drawing principles and practices (e.g., cross sections and profiles).Structural steel or reinforced concrete design principles.Computer programs related to designing and drafting.Survey measurements and calculations.Administrative and clerical procedures.Construction management principles, terminology, and practices.Safety policies and procedures and applicable agency requirements. Skill to: Operate a computer and all job related software.Communicate information to customers effectively.Properly operate all current manual and electronic types of survey equipment.Draw to scale from freehand sketches.Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty, in a proper and safe manner. Ability to: Determine distances by triangulation and coordinates.Compute deflection angles, interior angles, and bearings.Produce finished drawings digitally of a high degree of complexity from field notes, design data, and sketches.Utilize database applications, (such as AutoCAD, GIS).Locate and extract property information and data from records.Interpret engineering and architectural drawings.Read and utilize topographical maps.Perform mathematical computations.Apply mathematics to drafting.Interpret information contained in graphs such as graphic presentations of cross sections and profiles.Evaluate permit applications.
