Job Description
The Operations section of Public Works is currently seeking a Stormwater Superintendent to oversee preventive and corrective maintenance and construction activities for the City’s stormwater infrastructure, as well as overseeing emergency response efforts to natural and man-made disasters. The ideal candidate will be experienced in performing these duties in a local government setting and who can inspire and motivate employees to achieve the Department’s mission in an efficient and effective manner.
Responsibilities include:
  • Supervises staff, including selecting or recommending selection, training, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and terminating or recommending termination.
  • Plans, coordinates, assigns, supervises, and inspects work of crews engaged in repair and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure; ensures compliance by crews with general construction practices and safety standards.
  • Plans and oversees the preventative maintenance program; inspects stormwater infrastructure and prioritizes and assigns maintenance work.
  • Assists and executes activities during inclement weather/emergency management response (12-hour shifts) to natural and man-made disasters before, during, and after emergency conditions in order to restore essential City services.
  • Responds to citizen inquiries, determining nature of problem and directing necessary action.
  • Attends or conducts staff and other professional meetings to exchange information.
Requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather, to read grades from cut sheets and stations, and to lay out work zones (including coordination with Miss Utility). Requires knowledge of concrete and asphalt construction procedures and the ability to plan jobs and match with resources. May require some manual labor and operation of equipment. Ability to maintain work orders, logs, forms, records, material expenditures, equipment status, and other work-related information and to perform data entry to capture such information. Experience in Kronos and Maximo desirable.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of five years of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL preferred.
  • Equipment Operation experience preferred.
