Job Description
Do you have experience in providing excellent customer service and knowledge of City Planning or the development review process? The City of Chesapeake, Virginia, Planning Department is seeking a motivated person to join our team and help provide daily assistance to customers. This position offers the opportunity to learn all facets of planning in great detail and the opportunity for advancement. Some knowledge of City Codes, land use planning tools, the public hearing process, a comprehensive plan, and area studies/plans is beneficial. You would also assist with website updates and other important roles to keep citizens informed of Planning projects and upcoming meetings. Our Planning Department is composed of a dynamic team with an inclusive environment. This position is critical to making Chesapeake a great place to live, learn, work, farm, and play.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in planning or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
