City of Charlottesville is Hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II - Public Service Near Charlottesville, VA
The preferred hiring range for this position is between $17.69 - $23.80 an hour ($36,795.20 - $49,504.00 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City's retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

- The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system and does not participate in VRS, however the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS and there are certain provisions that must be met. For questions pertaining to the Portability Agreement, please contact the City's Benefits Administrator at 434-970-3462.
Work hours will include early mornings to sweep busy roads and streets during low traffic periods; The anticipated work schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 3:00 am to noon.
- Operates a front-end loader;
- Operates a back-hoe, trencher and related equipment in the maintenance and construction of roads and sewer lines;
- Operates a heavy roller;
- Operates large tractors with hydraulic arm mowers;
- Operates bucket truck, chipper and large mowing equipment in the maintenance of grounds;
- Operates televising and sewer cleaning equipment;
- Operates multi-purpose equipment in laying storm drains;
- Operates heavy sweepers in cleaning roads and streets;
- Services and makes minor repairs to equipment;
- When not operating medium to heavy equipment, operates light equipment;
- Periodically performs semi-skilled manual tasks in connection with the equipment operated;
- As a trainee, operates heavy equipment;
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. (If no diploma or GED is obtained, must have a minimum of 2 years of direct work experience in the field).
- Must have experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
- Must have a valid VA Driver's License by employment start date.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.
Positions in the Public Utilities or Public Works Departments are subject to mandatory emergency and stand by call and with minimum response time requirements.
Position is subject to federal DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations.
