City Of Charleston is Hiring a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Program Lead - $3,000 BONUS Near Charleston, SC

$3,000 BONUS
$1,500 ON FIRST CHECK AND $1,500 AFTER 120-DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT
 

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Program Lead to join the City of Charleston's Stormwater Department! In this role you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of working crews engaged in City maintenance projects to clean or rehabilitate stormwater infrastructure including primarily swales and canals with associated pipes and boxes.

  • Acts as a Maintenance Project Manager by developing a project approach for the rehabilitation of open channel drainage systems with crews, setting up the project schedule and identifying lead time items to coordinate the ordering and delivery of material. Oversees workmanship quality to ensure the completed project meets expectations.
  • Works with Supervisor to develop standard procedures and approaches to heavy maintenance work including but not limited to canal and swale cleaning, road-side ditch rehabilitation of neighborhood systems, vegetation management, tree removal, and erosion protection installation to allow for efficient and consistent methodologies for the Department activities.
  • Supervises the work of the crews by visiting the worksites to ensure that the work is being completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
  • Studies production schedules and inspects work areas to plan the daily workload, materials and hours needed to complete jobs, adjusting as needed.
  • Provides technical expertise in heavy equipment operation to carry out maintenance activities.
  • Trains and develops employees in maintenance scheduling, tradecraft, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Ensures compliance with safety policies and conducts monthly safety meeting.
  • Interprets City policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Ensures that all equipment is properly maintained, clean and ready for use.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, crew efficiency, equipment performance, and quality of work.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Prepares time and production records and other reports. 
  • May operate motor equipment such as excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Associate's degree (AA/AS) or equivalent Trade School training and 5 years of related experience; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 10 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current SC Commercial Driver’s License – Class A.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
