Construction Inspector Education and Experience- High School diploma/GED and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair; or
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, construction management, project management or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utility construction and inspection, site or land development, construction materials testing, and/or transportation infrastructure construction, maintenance and/or repair.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
- Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) year of service as a Construction Inspector within the assigned department/division; or prior experience as a Senior Construction Inspector within the City of Cape Coral, regardless of department or division.
- Inspects infrastructure, maintenance and capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with regulations, recognizes potential problems and violations, discusses necessary modifications/changes and ensures corrective measures are carried out.
- Inspects projects for quality of work, proper applicant/contractor credentials/licenses, and proper use and application of materials, mechanical and specialized equipment.
- Reviews plans, specifications, diagrams, and related data prior to, during, and upon project completion to establish compliance with regulations and approved construction plans.
- Consults/discusses with contractors, department administrators, field personnel, engineers, design personnel, project managers and regulatory agencies for the purpose of coordinating sequencing of project tasks, establishing compliance, providing/exchanging information concerning project(s) and necessary modifications.
